Clean Energy Cashback Scheme (Feed In Tariffs)
From 1st April 2010, if you generate your own electricity through a renewable technology, you may be eligible for the Clean Energy Cashback scheme (Feed In Tariffs). Earn rewards for generating your own electricity via renewable sources not just in the present, but for the next 20 to 25 years. Since 1st April 2010, generators using renewable technologies are eligible to be paid for each unit of electricity they generate, and for each unit of excess electricity which they export back to the grid.
How FIT Works
Customers who generate their own electricity through an accredited renewable low carbon technology are eligible to receive payment for every unit of electricity they generate. In addition where the customer produces more electricity than they use, and export the excess back to the grid, they will be eligible to be paid for each unit exported.
How Do I Benefit?
As a utility customer you may benefit in a variety of different ways:
- Generation tariff – A set rate will be paid by your supplier for each unit (or kWh) generated.
- Export tariff – For each unit of electricity generated that you don’t use and export back to the grid you will receive a further 3p/kWh from your energy supplier. Unlike the generation tariff the export rate is constant across all technology types.
- Energy bill savings – Since you will be generating your own electricity you may not need to buy as much from your supplier. Savings will be dependent on how much electricity you use on site.
How Much Can I Earn?
Customers will be paid in accordance with their chosen technology type, in line with published tariff rates. You can typically earn between 3p and 41p per unit dependant on technology type. For a full payment breakdown please Click here

Treating Customers Fairly is a core principle of our company and the way we conduct our business.

If I had my way, I would write the word "INSURANCE" over the door of every cottage and upon the blotting book of every public man, because I am convinced that for sacrifices which are inconceivably small, families can be secured against catastrophies which otherwise would smash them forever. - Sir Winston Churchill.
